Art Out
Yesterday Richard and I went to the annual Festival of the Masters at Downtown Disney. All the artists have won awards at juried shows so the quality of their work was established. Each artist was alloted a canvas booth, and these were lined along the wide walkways and grassy plats, lending a caravan feel to the whole affair.
There is no admission charge to Downtown Disney, so the Festival provides an excellent and entertaining outing with a touch of class and a spark of the unexpected. The range of style, medium, mood and drama was wonderfully extensive and we thoroughly enjoyed meandering from the exotic to the outrageous, from the whimsical to the ethereal.
One artist's work was familiar but I couldn't quite figure out why. Maddox? I have friends by that name, but they do not paint detailed aquatic light plays. Then I saw that the artist was from Dothan, Alabama, and I suddenly knew where I had seen similar works... in the lovely home of my lovely friend Carolynn. She has seven or eight of these stunning paintings.
With that mystery solved, we headed over to the new T-Rex Family Experience, which includes shopping, Landry's based dining and who knows what all. Lines were long and we opted to visit another time. Instead, we wandered over to The Earl of Sandwich where we fell in love with their hot, toasty fresh bread and extravagant sandwich fixin's. We ate outside where a hoola-hoop contest alternated with a Twist competition, both hosted by a boisterous and animated MC. The food was so good, we were only slightly irritated with the noisy show.m It was, after all, Saturday night!
This morning was the second Sunday of two services at The Vine, and all went extremely well again. God is certainly hearing and answering our prayers! I praise God who is adding members to our Pre-Service and Intercessory Prayer Teams and has brought together an Altar Prayer Team as well.
Richard and I had received special coupons and had planned a Pizza Date for this evening but when we arrived at the restaurant, it wasn't yet open. I mean, it was still under construction. So, we went to Cracker barrel and had breakfast for dinner as we often do at home. We lingered in the booth, sipping coffee and visiting for over an hour. It was nice.
Sometimes I can hardly believe how incredibly blessed I am! I could spend all my waking hours just thanking and praising my Savior and still never quite get the job done.
