I tell it like it is. This is an unscripted walk along the meandering paths of my mind. My life has never been dull... and I've never known boredom. Read on, you'll see...

Thanksgiving Blessings

Special Note on iona's Bible Study Notes: Revelation 10 and 11 have been fixed so the scroll bars work again.

It has been a long time since I posted, and the longer I go without making an entry, the harder it is to get started again. I think it's mostly because I feel I ought to play catch-up and try to record my lost days and the thought of doing that makes me tired. But I will say I was sick for over a week... even missed church on the 16th and Bible Study the following Wednesday.

So let's just go straight to today. We went into Kissimmee this morning and I met with Mike to discuss some things related to church, then we shopped around for nice looking but cheap storage options for the Communion elements and service pieces. We finally found some box-like woven non-baskets (what can I say?) I will paint and make nice. We did some other business and hurried home to dine on leftovers. Then Richard fell asleep on the couch and I felt like it but needed to update the Thanksgiving page. Hope you enjoy.....

Blessed Are the Peacemakers

Our lesson last night was about the dynamic of Christians (or anybody) in the presence of a Pastor, High Mucky-Muck Boss, a person we might want to date (for singles only) etc. in contrast to what we are like in or natural element of home, the grocery store, at work.

Deny it if you like, but I believe we would ALL act somewhat differently if a U.S. President, the Queen Mother , or Jesus sat down for a visit around our kitchen table. What we ought to do, is focus on them, listen to them, learn from them. What many of us do is focus on ourselves, trying to impress them with what we've done, who we've known, even lame attempts at humor (that usually puts me under the table)... all the while hoping they will remember us and realize we are important, too.

On a smaller scale and in varied degrees, we tend to let our guard down with family and sometimes with coworkers and close friends. Our class was invited to examine ourselves and recognize if there are areas of life where we wear a mask? We were also asked to examine our interaction with family or others close to us. As He usually does, God already had something in progress for applying this study. A potential tiff was developing via email... Beginning with the earliest post, here is a potential problem and how we dealt with it in our family.

The players are:
Me, mother and grandmother of a large and outspoken crowd, many in present or past military service and/or married to someone like that.
Granddaughter Tia: Married to a military man stationed in Iraq for his second tour of duty there.
Daughter Stephanie: Tia's mom, also in the military, serving in Afghanistan.

A tribute to Vets from iona

Tomorrow is Veteran's Day, and no matter how we respond to recent election results, we have the RIGHT TO VOTE! From the onset of this country, our military men and women with the grace of God, paid a great price to preserve that freedom and all others we now enjoy.

I have made a tribute page at http://ionanet.com/press/cards/vet.htm to honor them and the Lord. The "models" for my art are hopefully familiar to you from other pieces.

Please pray for our our troops and Veterans and support Vet assistance groups like PVA and some newly formed Traumatic Brain Injury support groups for Vets.

Richard and all his brothers are Veterans, as is my only brother. Six of our children and two grandchildren are Veterans. Including our children, their spouses and their children, We have nine on active duty right now. One daughter is in Afghanistan and a grandson-in-law is in Iraq. The others are stateside just now.

Let us pay tribute to all our Vets, on active duty, or no longer in the service, and hold them up in prayer.

Joyfully in Christ,
iona

Thanks for that Grandma. I just wanted to say that while you all are getting Veterans day off, all the military personnel here in Misawa have to work and all the people in Iraq and Afghanistan have to work. None of these vets get to celebrate the one day that was set aside to honor them because they are too busy doing their job of protecting other's right to a day off. So please do be thankful for what they are out there doing.

Sounds like I touched a nerve... Didn't mean to. There are many people working on Veteran's Day, from all walks of life and their contributions are important, too.. But if I wasn't thankful for the sacrifice our military men and women make, I would not have posted the tribute :-)
Love you, Grandma

No you didn't touch a nerve :) It's just some times it's easy to touch your hat to someone without really appreciating them. I see my co-workers, my neighbors and my friends going to work today because that is what the mission requires. It makes them sad that they can't have "thier" day to be with their families and it makes me sad for them. There are people all over the world today (it is the 11th over here) that can't hug their spouse, parent or child and say "thank you." These people truely, truely do need to be appreciated. That is all I meant to say.

Tia, I love you. I love that you say what you think and that you care about people. Mom, I love you too. I love the tributes and things that you do. I love that you say what you think and care about people. On the 12th, your 11th, we had a mortar attack. It worked out all right. There's not a lot of people who love being here, but all of us chose to serve. Yes, we would love to be home hugging the ones we love, but I don't hear too much griping. Its our job and we're pretty good at it. When our turn is done, we'll come home and have some days off too. Til then, its nice to know someone gets the day off.
Love you all

For Tia, Stephanie and all the other outspoken ones... Guess that covers about everyone on this list;

Yes, you can sure tell we came from the Henrietta Wigant, Ruth Cooper (my paternal grandmother, Ruth, and her mother) line of women, with a dash of Thelma Arndt thrown in for good measure! I love that we are self expressive, but I don't love that I often speak (write) without rethinking my words to be sure that what I say is worth saying, is beneficial and makes a positive difference.

Tia, you wrote what was on your heart, and I can see your point, but I responded in a gut reaction, unlike you, Stephanie, whose words got the point across (a very valid one) but uplifted the readers while doing so. Go, Stephanie! And thanks for being there, for choosing to be there. We appreciate it more than you know.

Likewise, we appreciate Eddie and his sacrifice, and the willing sacrifices made by all of you military types I love so well. No matter where you presently serve and what your line of duty, you chose a life dedicated to protecting and preserving America and all the freedoms she stands for; that includes the most recent additions to our military roster, Miriah and Betheny. I think that is HUGE!

The sacrifices of spouses shouldn't be overlooked either. I've been in that boat, too, and understand the loneliness and all the rest of it. It's not an easy boat to paddle and requires a stout heart and much support.

This happened to be a Veterans Day discussion, but as for you non-military types... I am proud of you as well. Somebody has to make the system roll along. We all have many callings and parts to play in life, and I am thrilled that you each chose your own path and follow it with honor. I am also thankful that I did not choose the military life... come to think of it, the nation and all branches of the military are also glad I did something else with my life.

And you are right, Tia and Stephanie, as we were all trying to say in our own way, it's about an on-going appreciation of the sacrifices and service of our Veterans, and setting aside a special day to pay tribute to them and the tremendous job they do The day off is more to cause us all to stop and think about that than to provide a paid holiday, but it is ironic those being honored don't get the day off... including my sweet "Tall Man," a Veteran himself.

So now, I will be so tacky as to borrow a motto from the Martin Luther King, Jr. celebrations... "A day on, not a day off." Although that related to racial issues, my application of it refers to the fact we must all be diligent and watchful over our freedoms, protective of our family relationships, and thankful for all of it!

I dearly love you, my family. Next to God alone, you, my whole family, are all the most important thing in my life. I pray for you daily... and I really mean it. "I'm praying for you," or "I'll keep you in my prayers," these statements are never just a platitude for me.

P.S. I am working on a tribute/prayer page for The Vine as well as my web site. I need a semi-recent picture of each of you in uniform. Just email it to me, please.

Love to all;
The outspoken too quick one who loves you!

Found and Lost

We went to see The Phantom of the Opera yesterday at the Tampa Bay Center for the Performing Arts. What a great entertainment find is that production! There are currently eleven professional productions around the world. There have been five U.S. productions. The Third National Tour is the only production currently touring the U.S. and has been on the road for 16 incredible years.

The extravagant costuming and amazing sets are over the top, but the musical splendor stole the show. I always love a live orchestra, and this one was excellent, doing a superb job of embellishing the voices without overpowering them. Truly a delightful and polished presentation all round. I am so glad we went!

We ate at Fresh Harvest before the show, and, using a napkin, I removed my lower denture as I often do after eating because it has never fit properly and causes me pain. I must have laid the napkin (with my lower denture inside) on the table or plate, because I have not seen the denture since. We have searched everywhere and went back to Fresh Harvest after the show, and they tried hard to find it for me, but alas, I believe that finding these teeth a lost cause.

So now I am using an old set that is so painful I can hardly eat. I am trusting the Lord to provide funding for new teeth. Meanwhile, maybe it will lead to weight loss... well, probably not since most soft, soupy or creamy foods are also high in calories.

We had Bible Study today and Small Group this evening. I love Wednesdays!

Finally Over?

I got notice today that my 4-year old Workmen's Comp case will go to court 12/2/08. I am glad it will finally be over, but I wish they had given me more time to prepare. I am not worried about preparing a case, I am needing more time to figure out money and transportation. Oh well, God will work it all out.

I am praying that the hearing be fair and the judgement just for all parties. Finally, and most importantly, I pray that the Lord might present opportunities to witness, pray with people and spread the Gospel. After all, He wouldn't send me way back there just to go to court!

There is a possible chance I could see California people I love while I am there. If I drove, I could do that, but I am not sure about arrangements at all yet. I don't know if this is a one day event or if it will take longer.

Tomorrow we are going to Tampa to see Phantom of the Opera. We bought the tickets a little while back and have excellent orchestra seats. We'll have dinner at Fresh Harvest before the show. I'm really looking forward to this.

It is late and I still want to make some progress on my commentary/Bible Study notes. I always end up writing in more detail than I planned but am not entirely sure that's a bad thing.

And my day was like this...
  • 12:47 Updating Prayer and Small Group email lists, also sending welcome email to newcomers. Then send out new Prayer Focus and new Altar Team ...
  • 17:23 Working on commentary of the last third of Revelation 11. Hope to finish ch 12 by Wednesday.

Art Out

Yesterday Richard and I went to the annual Festival of the Masters at Downtown Disney. All the artists have won awards at juried shows so the quality of their work was established. Each artist was alloted a canvas booth, and these were lined along the wide walkways and grassy plats, lending a caravan feel to the whole affair.

There is no admission charge to Downtown Disney, so the Festival provides an excellent and entertaining outing with a touch of class and a spark of the unexpected. The range of style, medium, mood and drama was wonderfully extensive and we thoroughly enjoyed meandering from the exotic to the outrageous, from the whimsical to the ethereal.

One artist's work was familiar but I couldn't quite figure out why. Maddox? I have friends by that name, but they do not paint detailed aquatic light plays. Then I saw that the artist was from Dothan, Alabama, and I suddenly knew where I had seen similar works... in the lovely home of my lovely friend Carolynn. She has seven or eight of these stunning paintings.

With that mystery solved, we headed over to the new T-Rex Family Experience, which includes shopping, Landry's based dining and who knows what all. Lines were long and we opted to visit another time. Instead, we wandered over to The Earl of Sandwich where we fell in love with their hot, toasty fresh bread and extravagant sandwich fixin's. We ate outside where a hoola-hoop contest alternated with a Twist competition, both hosted by a boisterous and animated MC. The food was so good, we were only slightly irritated with the noisy show.m It was, after all, Saturday night!

This morning was the second Sunday of two services at The Vine, and all went extremely well again. God is certainly hearing and answering our prayers! I praise God who is adding members to our Pre-Service and Intercessory Prayer Teams and has brought together an Altar Prayer Team as well.

Richard and I had received special coupons and had planned a Pizza Date for this evening but when we arrived at the restaurant, it wasn't yet open. I mean, it was still under construction. So, we went to Cracker barrel and had breakfast for dinner as we often do at home. We lingered in the booth, sipping coffee and visiting for over an hour. It was nice.

Sometimes I can hardly believe how incredibly blessed I am! I could spend all my waking hours just thanking and praising my Savior and still never quite get the job done.

What Now?

America has spoken. Money and the promise of economic security have won out over morality and the sanctity of life. The Bible, its Author and its readers have been openly mocked by the president elect and his followers, and that was even before they had their victory.

In my last blog I said, "Mr. Obama would not be the president elect of the United States if God had not allowed or caused it to be." I based that statement on Romans 13:1 which reads: "Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God." They exist through either His permissive or directive will, but He remains sovereign.

My friend Jerri disagrees and left a comment here at the bottom of the page. After you read it, take time to visit her excellent blog.

But I stand by the fact that God is in control and has given "every person" a command to be in "subjection" to civil government. Let us not forget who was in control as Paul wrote this -- the Romans who thought Caesar was “god,” who made a sport of murder, who persecuted believers and would later kill Paul. Consider the fact that the Holy Spirit chose the time and human author to deliver this command. All this stands to authenticate the intent of this scripture.

Remember Jesus didn't come to overthrow the government, He came to overthrow Satan!

Some say God has had nothing to do with the fact that the likes of Hitler came to power. So, where was God? Asleep? Nothing happens in all creation that God has not allowed or caused, including the Fall in the Garden of Eden. But that does in NO WAY mean He condones or approves of sin or the powers that rise to control nations. He has granted man free agency, we can choose right or wrong, but He is not a helpless bystander and has intervened in man's affairs many times in the course of history. He has a plan and it transcends the temporal.

Thus I say again, Consider the fact that the Holy Spirit chose the time and human author to deliver the command that we be in submission or subjection to the government in place over us. At times Christians will be called to “obey God, rather than men” (see Acts 5:29), but like Daniel and his friends who wouldn't bow down to worship the king, we are to be subject in all things not breaking the commands of our Lord.

So, what now is to be the Christian's stand? Rebellion cannot be it, at least not in the common sense of the word. But we can be in resistance to ungodly rule in prayer, in lawful petition, in peaceful demonstration, editorially and with our votes. Being subject , however, prevents us from the meanness and sarcasm I have witnessed in some believers since the election (and before).

As ever, we all need to become steeped in God's Word, perhaps now with a special emphasis on end times prophecy.

Exciting Times

Wednesday 11/5: I am pleasantly tired tonight. We cleaned carpets yesterday and the day before, and I was up most of the night watching election news. In the midst of it all we went to Tampa and overindulged at the Fresh Harvest cafe yesterday after voting.

We had no lines at our polling place and the election workers were friendly and efficient. We had researched each candidate and all the propositions, marking our choices on the sample ballots, so we were in and out in a matter of minutes.

The two most important issues for us were the presidential election and Proposition 2, the Marriage Protection Amendment. Although it required 60% or more to pass, the proposition made it just fine, but our presidential favorite, John McCain was defeated by Senator Barak Obama.

I opposed Obama over his pro-abortion stance, socialism, secular humanism and disrespect of our nation's heritage, flag, anthem, and Pledge of Allegiance, but I was pleased to see a black person elected to our nation's highest office. So, this afternoon I was disappointed to see such a shallow evaluation of anti-Obama sentiment among evangelical Christians, calling it a racial issue. Clearly, the press has no concept of the mind of Christ. Well, that's no surprise. The unsaved are all in that sinking boat.

Mr. Obama would not be the president elect of the United States if God had not allowed or caused it to be. For whatever reason, this man who has so little respect for or understanding of God and his Word (which he made sarcastic remarks about) has been installed by God in a role of national leadership.

We, as the body of believers have a God mandated obligation to respect the office and the man filling it so long as that duty does not fly in the face of God's instructions to us in His Word and by His spirit.

So, now we have a body of work to do, and believers may be the only ones who can accomplish it.

1.) First and foremost, we must pray!
2.) Next, we must stand ready to fight to preserve the values and traditions upon which America was founded.
3.) We must continue to be active in politics and governmental affairs.
4.) We must be about public affairs in a Christ-like way.
5.) We must keep track of political performance and respond via the "system" to correct wrongs where ever we find them.
6. ) Then we must pray some more. Let the heavens hear and be moved.

All said and done, we are living in exciting Times!

Prayer for the Nation

I have been in almost constant prayer for the nation to turn an d follow the path of righteousness... I am spent and mostly devoid of anything further to say, so I will post what God has caused to be sent to me. I know not the author and pray permission is granted (I somehow have faith that it is):

Prayer for the Nation- People are praying and seeking God's guidance.
Prayer for Voters

Dear Heavenly Father,

Oh Heavenly Father, we are a great Nation who desires your will for us. We recognize that we have turned from you in many areas and have not lived according to your ways. Please Forgive us for our failures and for living to please ourselves instead of serving you. Let this be a time of cleansing for our nation. Please help us to be on the right path and if necessary please change the direction in which we are headed. We want to vote according to your will... only you know the true hearts of the candidates. We thank you and trust that you will lead us and guide us through your Holy Spirit and through Biblical truth. Anoint us and help us to carry out your perfect will for our Nation and please deliver us from Evil.

Please guide and direct our steps. May our hearts be open to your will, and may you give us ears to hear so that we will recognize your voice. Which candidate will lay aside his will and be led by your Holy Spirit? Who stands for righteousness and holiness? Who seeks Godly wisdom and is man of integrity, which candidate has the mind of Christ? Who will uphold your principles and stand by you and not succumb to the pressures of the mainstream media or to Man's wisdom? Which candidate will be your voice (and not just do what is popular at any given moment) but who will act according to your word and guidance. Which person is a yielded vessel desiring to carry out your plans and purposes? Which candidate believes in the sanctity of marriage and will take a stand to protect the unborn children? Which candidate will pray and stand in the gap for our Nation?

Thank you for coming to our aid in this crucial hour and at a time of such great need. May we humble ourselves and pray on our knees before you to hear your voice and be led by your Spirit. And may we also cling to you and not be pressured to vote in a way that does not bring you Glory and Honor. Yes we wish to Honor you. Please have mercy on us...

In the most wonderful name of Jesus we pray. Amen

As reported...

Prayer for the Nation- People are praying and seeking God's guidance.

They're fasting on the steps of the Florida Capitol, hoping God will hear their pleas to put an abortion opponent in the White House. (See article)

While politicians are making their final pitch to voters, religious Americans from across the political spectrum are appealing to a higher power on the candidates' behalf.

"We have just days to pray that someone who upholds the sanctity of life and marriage between one man and one woman will win," said Pam Olsen, co-pastor with her husband of the International House of Prayer in Tallahassee, Fla.

"The outcome is up to God," she said.

Rabbi David Seidenberg of Northampton, Mass., has written a prayer in Hebrew and English that can be recited just before filling out a ballot. Posted on his blog neohasid.org, and distributed through e-mail, it includes a voter pledge to heal the world and a wish for the country to "pursue righteousness and to seek peace."

"There still is so much hope and feeling connected to this election and I want to say that in as nonpartisan a way as possible," Seidenberg said in an interview. "It really feels like so much hangs in the balance and so many dreams and hopes hang in the balance right now."

Call to Prayer

See my discussion of this day below the more urgent issue of this call to prayer for the election.

Below are PROMISES that your prayers will be answered if they are in God's will. Read them and wield that POWER! Unless we have gone so far down the road of sin that God's will is to punish us, there can be little doubt of His will in this election. Pray, repenting of personal and national sins. Ask God for mercy, deliverance and intervention. Pray for a miraculous turnout of voters whose eyes have been opened to the truth.

My friend Jerri says, "Specific states that need prayer are Colorado, Nevada, Virginia, Florida, Ohio, Iowa, Indiana, West Virginia, Missouri, Pennsylvania, North Dakota. I’ve also heard Michigan tossed in. If the Lord brings it to mind, pray for it."

Ask God to defuse the explosion of hate that wells just below the surface... on both sides. Remember, Obama is not the enemy, but a tool of the enemy. Pray for his salvation and that of his family and supporters. At the same time, recognize the danger of his rhetoric and history, his agenda and his allegiances.

I cannot believe any true follower of Jesus Christ would consider voting for Obama even if they believed his fanciful plans to care for us all by taxing the "rich" and the corporations. The Bible says we cannot serve God and money. If a believer votes for Obama in some misguided belief that it is better for the fiscal health of the country, that believer has replaced allegiance to God with faith in materialism. So, if you claim Christ, be still and know that He is God. Stop. Think. Pray. He is either Lord of your life and your vote or you need to seriously consider if He is your Lord at all. For if He is Lord, He is also Master. Will you "lose" your salvation by voting for immorality, murder and socialism? No. But you might want to have a serious talk with Jesus as to whether you have ever really turned your life over to Him at all. Jesus did not mince words about those who claim His name and refuse to do His will, and neither shall I.

It is my prayer that our nation will once more become a praying nation; that we will begin to comprehend and apprehend the amazing POWER of prayer. Now, more than ever before, we need to tap into that power. Tuesday, America will make a crucial choice, as Pat Boone has put it, we will choose between Resolution Road and Capitulation Highway. We will also vote on how to define marriage, as if it isn't obvious. As I said, America needs prayer as never before! And prayer WORKS!

Consider these promises from the Word of God:

The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective." James 5:16

"The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ." Cor 10:4-5

"And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it," John 14:13-14 Note: "...in my name" implies in His will, for to be identified with His name is to be identified with He, Himself and His complete will.

"This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us - whatever we ask - we know that we have what we asked of him." 1 John 5:14-15

We know we have what we asked for when we pray in God's will, (and we should always qualify our prayers by asking that HIS will supersede ours) and it matters not how pretty our words are, nor whether we are in church or in the car, etc. There is no ritualistic requirement other than sincere faith, simple trust and a longing for HIS will to prevail.

Notice the last two quotes have the condition of praying in the Lord's will. We must use caution when citing any Bible reference because for the meaning to be valid, it must be considered with and tempered by what the whole Word says about the subject within the confines of the Old or New Testament, ie: Under the Law or under Grace.

Read what Pat Boone has written:
ELECTION 2008 -What we need? Or what we deserve?
Exclusive: Pat Boone sees America on cusp of choosing capitulation over freedom
By Pat Boone

Well, here we are. We've arrived at the intersection of two roads, one of which this country will decide to take. We'll choose between Resolution Road and Capitulation Highway.

By our voting – or not voting – we'll set out irreversibly on the road to our future. And it's one or the other.

Resolution Road is not a new thoroughfare. It's bumpy and hilly, and it needs repair. There are patches where it's not well lit and others where trees or rocks have fallen across it, creating obstacles that must be removed. But it's been there a long, long time, and it's been the chosen route for millions for almost 230 years. It's always been the way home, to the Land of the Free, to that Shining City on a Hill, as President Reagan described it.

Remember what Ben Franklin said, when asked what the Constitution had created? "A republic … if you can keep it." He knew even then that only resolve, watchful dedication by the citizens, would preserve the dream.

On all previous maps of the United States of America, at least since the Civil War, Resolution Road has been the direct, sure way back to the most incredible civilized society the world has ever known. Sure, it takes concentration and focus and even occasional sacrifice – resolution – but it's the proven way to what most of us have cherished and the rest of the world has envied.

But, now, there's also Capitulation Highway – a wide open, mythical new road that millions seem ready to travel. Though no one has yet traveled on it, they've been told it leads to an enchanted new place called CHANGE. Its extravagant advertising promises great education and total health care for every American, and even 12 to 14 million illegal aliens. Taxes? What taxes? Except for the evil rich, of course. Oh – and corporations! Why should 90 percent of the people have to pay taxes, especially if people don't choose to work, since the rich obviously can and should pick up the tab for everybody else?

In this exciting new destination, laws are loose and easily changed or abandoned if they get in the way of popular trends and desires. "Marriage" and "family" have only vague, fuzzy definitions, applicable to virtually any combination or variation. Pregnancy and childbearing? Sure, it's necessary for a continuing population, but nobody should be obligated or "punished" with an unwanted child as a result of sexual escapades. Abortion will be available to all, including the youngest – and, best of all, it's tax supported. Religion, for the few simple-minded or old-fashioned folks who still want it, is permitted, but only in the privacy of homes and some churches. And under no circumstances is any religious babble or judgmental talk allowed in the halls of government or on the airwaves.

The architects of this superhighway say that all will travel at such a happy speed that they'll have virtually no worries, every need met by a benevolent Big Brother government, with wealth evenly distributed, and any potential enemies diplomatically sweet talked into waving cheerily as the "New Americans" sweep by. At last, the nation will be just like Europe, with a socialistic way of life where everybody is just like everybody else, anything goes, and any sort of moral absolutes are just quaint notions from the past.

Yes, this road and its destination sound so appealing to so many now. There's no apparent toll, either, but all who travel this road must be willing to capitulate, to surrender all outmoded ideals like independence, obedience to annoying laws, earning advancement by hard work and dedication, and resisting absorption into the greater brotherhood of nations, the New World of The Future.

Best of all, it seems, our guide on this Capitulation Highway is an articulate young man who – though he's never traveled the road before nor been to whatever is at the end of it – claims to know exactly how to get there and to lead us all there safely.

He's cast a spell over much of the populace, wooing them with dreams of happy unity, a restored environment, new sources of energy, a bustling economy with affordable everything for everybody, the approval and admiration of all other nations, Supreme Court justices with whom he has no "ideological differences" – and subsequently a revamped constitutional order that can accommodate just about anything anybody wants to do.

Sounds like Paradise, doesn't it? A real Shangri-La. Everything Karl Marx imagined, and more! And really, all it requires is total capitulation, a giving in to the baser instincts of mankind, a relinquishing of those old ideas of the sanctity of all life, even the unborn, and all those needless restrictions on behavior and instant gratification. Fifty million abortions since 1973? Hey, you ain't seen nothin' yet! With Planned Parenthood and increased government funding, no young girl ever has to have a baby if she doesn't want to!

Why, this young guide to CHANGE can even make the wholesale slaughter of innocent children sound like a laudable right of women; and to placate those who still oppose abortion, he and his religious advisers promise to promote adoption, letting some babies live, and provide prenatal and postnatal care to young mothers who keep their children alive. He hopes we'll forget that the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision opened the legal door to a national holocaust unequaled in mankind's history, and he's determined to appoint judges to see it stays in place. And he and his sold-out advisers ask if reducing the number of child murders to maybe only a half million a year won't suffice.

This guide with the Muslim name and several longtime Muslim extremist friends supports allowing same-sex marriage, socialistic plans for the economy and toning down military response to just about anything, favoring dialogue as our primary defense. And he makes it sound reasonable and appealing! And all we have to do, to acquire all he promises on the superhighway, is to surrender every last shred of moral restraint … to capitulate.

The only alternative we have to Capitulation Highway is Resolution Road – recommitment to the strong principles that created this republic. The biblical writer proclaimed long ago, "Righteousness exalts a nation; sin is a disgrace to any people."

Time to choose. We're about to get either what we need – or what we deserve.

The Vine went to two services today for the first time. We had begun to max out our parking and children's facilities, and the sanctuary was closing in on 80% full. That seems to be a magic number, not only for churches, but for any group that gathers for meetings. Several research projects have shown that once you fill about 80% of the seating, growth slows and levels off.

Since people generally don't like change, especially in the group dynamics of a close knit bunch like a church family, there is normally a certain amount of resistance to splitting into two Sunday services. Also, there is a substantial amount of effort involved to duplicate the worship, sermon, children's program, etc. I have been through this process in the past with two churches and was quite surprised at how well things went today. I really shouldn't have been for we have been praying for God's special blessing on the entire process.

I was called to develop and oversee a new prayer ministry at The Vine which is still in its fledgling stages. It involves three prayer teams, an Intercessory Prayer Team, a Pre-Service Prayer Team and an Altar Prayer Team which also prepares and cares for the elements of the Lord's Supper. We have over 40 Prayer Warriors on the Intercessory Team, praise God! We have only three on the Pre-Service Team (pray for God to draw more to this important ministry), and the Altar Team still needs to be trained and organized, and although it has a good compliment of men, we need more ladies (again, please pray for that).

But mostly, PRAY for America!
