Have you made resolutions in
the past only to forget them amid the demands of
your daily duties and the cares of your life?
While writing my resolutions
for 1999, I came across those I had prepared for
1995 - they were almost identical! And mostly
ignored.
As I reviewed these promises to
myself, I began to see why they would probably
never be kept. They were too lofty and too many.
But mostly, they just didn't fit my lifestyle and
they took too much time. I was never going to
have my bed made before leaving my bedroom each
morning, not in a thousand years!
So I slashed from the list all
the unimportant and unkeepable (for me)
resolutions and vowed to keep those with
substance which would lead me to a closer walk
with the Lord and deeper relationships with loved
ones.
Yes, I believe the New Year is
a perfect time to take stock in ourselves and
resolve to make some improvements, but our
resolutions must be carefully made and our
commitment to them real.
